It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Jones, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He left this world peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was surrounded by the comforting presence of his loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and inspiration that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on January 1, 1950, in East Hampton, Connecticut, John was the cherished son of Jim and Mary Jones. From an early age, he exhibited a curiosity and passion for learning that would shape his life's journey. John graduated from Manchester High School and pursued higher education at the University of Hartford, earning his degree in 1969. These formative years laid the foundation for a remarkable career and a life filled with exploration and achievement.
John's professional journey took him to Travelers Insurance Company, where he dedicated himself to the data processing department. His innovative spirit and tireless work ethic led to significant developments, including the creation of a satellite program that revolutionized data transfer between Hartford, Connecticut, and Norcross, Georgia. His contributions not only advanced the company's technological capabilities but also underscored his commitment to excellence and progress.
In 1978, John married the love of his life, Janice Henry. Their marriage of 47 years was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life that was rich with shared dreams, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. John's love for Janice was evident in every aspect of their lives, and their bond was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them.
John was a man of many interests, most notably his profound love for astronomy and space travel. An avid astronomy fan, he often spent countless nights gazing at the stars, finding wonder in the vastness of the universe. His enthusiasm for space exploration was infectious, and he delighted in sharing this passion with family and friends.
In addition to his professional and personal pursuits, John was an active member of the Manchester Historical Society. He believed deeply in the importance of preserving history and contributing to the community. His involvement in the society reflected his dedication to understanding the past and shaping a better future.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Janice, his devoted siblings, Fred Jones and Matilda Spenser, and a host of cherished friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly. His warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit touched the lives of so many, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on June 11, 2026, at the Spenser Funeral Home, located on South Main Street in East Hampton, Connecticut. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge.
As we say goodbye to John, we carry forward the lessons he taught us and the memories we created together. His spirit will continue to light our path, and his love will forever remain in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a cancer research organization of your choice, ensuring that John's fight will continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
Rest in peace, dear John. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, always.
