John Jackson

February 1, 1949 — April 10, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Jackson, a beloved brother, uncle, veteran, friend, and mentor. John passed away peacefully in hospice care on April 10, 2026, surrounded by the enduring love of his family. Born on February 1, 1949, in St. Paul, Minnesota, John was the cherished son of Anna (Schuster) and John Jackson, who preceded him in death. John’s adventurous spirit and dedication to service were evident early in life. After graduating high school, he answered the call of duty by serving his country as a proud Navy veteran during the Vietnam War. His time in the Navy was a testament to his bravery and commitment, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life. Upon returning from military service, John dedicated 30 years of his life to the Schmidt Brewery, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and camaraderie. Later, he embraced a new challenge as an over-the-road 18-wheel driver, exploring the open roads of America with the same passion he had for life. An avid outdoorsman, John found solace and joy in the natural beauty of northern Minnesota. He was a passionate fisherman, boater, and hunter, and nothing brought him more happiness than sharing these pursuits with his beloved nieces and nephews. John was not just an uncle but a teacher and guide, imparting the skills of outdoor survival and a love for nature to the next generation. John’s love for his family was boundless, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. He is survived by his siblings, Frank, Daniel, Greg, Michael, and Margaret, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished his wisdom, humor, and stories of adventure. In keeping with his generous spirit, John donated his body to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program, ensuring that even in death, he continues to give to others. A final resting place will be established at Fort Snelling Veterans Cemetery, where his service and sacrifice will be eternally honored. To honor John’s memory and his unwavering dedication to those who served, the family invites donations to be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors or Disabled American Veterans groups. These organizations reflect John’s enduring commitment to his fellow servicemen and women. John Jackson’s life was a testament to love, service, and adventure. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever echo in the laughter of his family, the beauty of the Minnesota wilderness he adored, and the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
