John “Jack” Ryan

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Ryan, who departed this life on August 20, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on April 22, 1943, in Queens, NY, Jack was a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a dedicated public servant whose life was marked by love, service, and community. Jack was the treasured son of John and Margaret Ryan. He shared his life in marriage for 54 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Noreen. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four daughters: Trish, Kathy, Noreen, and Mary Ellen. Jack was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Brandon, Courtney, Samantha, Ryan Michelle, Kaitlyn, Peyton, Ryan, Thomas, Shannon, Molly, Kieran, Grace, Colleen, and Connor, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom, humor, and boundless love. A proud veteran, Jack served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, demonstrating courage and dedication. After returning from service, he embarked on a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department, where he served for 33 years. As a first-grade detective in the major case squad, Jack's commitment to justice and his community was unwavering, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and the community he served so diligently. Jack's passion for music and Irish culture found a home in his role as a founding member of the Tara Pipes and Drums in Massapequa, where he proudly served as Drum Major for over 35 years. His leadership extended to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, particularly Division 15 in Massapequa, where he held various offices. Jack was also an active member of the American Legion Post 1066, reflecting his lifelong dedication to service and camaraderie. A Mass celebrating Jack's life will be held on August 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa, NY. Friends and family are invited to honor his memory and the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. In honor of Jack's service and spirit, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, an organization that held special significance to him. Jack Ryan's life was a testament to the values of family, service, and community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. May he rest in peace.
