John Howard Crane Sr.
January 3, 1943 — October 11, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Howard Crane Sr., who left this world on October 11, 2026, at the First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care. Born on January 3, 1943, in Bainbridge, New York, John lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
John was the cherished son of the late Harry Crane and Marian Knott, and he now joins them in peaceful rest, along with his beloved wife, Shirley Crane, whose memory he treasured dearly.
John's life was marked by his noble service in the Army National Guard, where he served with honor from July 9, 1961, to February 1, 1967. His commitment to serving his country was a source of pride and shaped the values he carried throughout his life.
He was a man of many talents, dedicating his professional life to working as a Private Investigator for Pinkerton and Borden Dairy. Later, he found his calling at the Gadsden County Times, where he eventually retired after many years of devoted service. John's work was not just a career but a testament to his unwavering dedication and integrity.
Outside of his professional life, John was a man who deeply loved spending time with his family and friends. He found great joy in being on the lake, skiing, and sharing laughter and stories with those he held dear. His warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
John is survived by his loving children, who were his pride and joy: John Howard Jr. and his wife Valerie Crane, Deborah Crane, Elizabeth Crane of Columbia, South Carolina, Michael Radford and his wife Bobbi Coffey of Boyd, Texas, and Christopher Crane and Elizabeth Houston of Tallahassee, Florida along with four grandchildren. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, strength, and compassion.
In memory of John, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee Florida.
John Howard Crane Sr. will be remembered for his steadfast love, his unfailing dedication, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. While he will be greatly missed, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide those he leaves behind.
