It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of John H. Pettitt, a beloved father, son, brother, and loyal friend who departed this life peacefully at home on May 4, 2026. Born on April 23, 1983, in Corning, NY., John embraced life with an enduring spirit and a heart full of love and laughter. John was the beloved son of Dale and Janice Pettitt, who survive him, cherishing the memories of their son and the joy he brought into their lives. Predeceased by his cherished wife, Marie Anne Pettitt (Chilson), John now joins her in eternal rest, alongside his paternal grandparents, John and Irma Pettitt, his maternal grandparents, Jospeh and Barbara Dolley, and his uncle, Joseph Dolley. A proud graduate of Campbell-Savona Central School in 2002. He then pursued his passion for machinery and precision by earning a Machinist degree from Corning Community College in 2004. His career spanned over 19 years at Hilliard Corporation, and more recently, he shared his expertise with colleagues at Eaton CNC Machine Shop in Elmira, NY. John's commitment to his craft was matched only by the dedication he showed to his family and friends. John's life was rich in experience and interests. An avid hunter and fisherman, passions he eagerly shared with his sons. The joy and solace he found in the great outdoors. His culinary talents were legendary among family and friends, as he loved concocting new recipes and delighting others with his creations. Music was another of John's passions; his remarkable ability to identify songs by a simple hum was a testament to his deep appreciation for melody. He passed this love to his sons, Gabriel and Xavier Pettitt, sharing with them the timeless tunes and classic movies that shaped his own life. John's life was filled with treasured moments of laughter and joy. His quick wit, warm smile, and welcoming nature made him a cherished companion at gatherings, campfires, and any occasion that brought people together. Whether riding four-wheelers with friends and family, target shooting with his sons, or spending time with his loyal dog Odin, John embraced life with a spirit of adventure and camaraderie. John is survived by his parents, Dale and Janice Pettitt of Pine City; his sons Gabriel and Xavier Pettitt (Mom-Katie Pettitt) of Elmira; his sister, Heather Wray (Mark Wray) of Campbell; his niece Haven Pettitt of Pine City; his nephew Jason Kain (Siarra and son Nathaniel) of Clay Center; and his nephew Carter Wray of Campbell. In remembering John, we celebrate a life filled with kindness, generosity, and an enduring legacy of love. His laughter, spirit, and the countless lives he touched will remain forever in our hearts. As we say goodbye to a remarkable soul, we find comfort in the memories and the love that will continue to inspire us. A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Phillips Funeral Home, located at 17 W Pulteney St., Corning, NY 14830. As we gather to remember and pay tribute to this remarkable man, we invite all who knew him to join us in sharing stories and memories that reflect the incredible life he led.
