John H. Pettitt
April 23, 1983 — May 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of John H. Pettitt, who left this world peacefully at his home on May 4, 2026. Born on April 23, 1983, in the quaint town of Corning, NY, John was a beloved son, a devoted father, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend. His life, though brief, was filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories.
John was the son of Dale and Janice Pettitt, who provided him with a nurturing and loving home. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie Pettitt (Chilson), whose memory he held close to his heart, his paternal grandparents, John and Irma Pettitt, maternal grandparents, Joseph and Barbara Dolley, and his uncle, Joseph Dolley. The legacy of love they left behind will forever be cherished by those who knew them.
He leaves behind his two precious sons, Gabriel and Xavier Pettitt, who were the lights of his life, and their mother, Katie Pettitt. John was a devoted father who took immense pride in sharing his passions with his boys, from teaching them the art of fishing and hunting to introducing them to the world of music and classic cinema. His sister, Heather Wray, along with her husband, Mark Wray, will forever feel the absence of his humor and wisdom. His beloved niece, Haven Pettitt, and nephews, Jason Kain (wife Siarra and son Nathaniel), and Carter Wray will carry forward the values and joy he imparted to them.
John's educational journey began at Campbell-Savona Central School, where he graduated in 2002. He went on to earn a degree as a CNC Machinist from Corning Community College, a testament to his dedication and hard work. His professional career spanned over 19 years at Hilliards and most recently at Eaton, where he was highly regarded for his expertise and commitment.
Beyond his career, John's life was enriched by a tapestry of interests and hobbies. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions he eagerly shared with his sons. His love of music was unparalleled, as he had a unique ability to identify a song simply by humming its tune. John found solace in family gatherings and cherished the warmth of campfires surrounded by friends and loved ones. Annual trips to Myrtle Beach as a child were among his fondest memories, and he delighted in sharing such experiences with his family.
Those who knew John will remember him for his quick wit and infectious smile, always ready with a joke to brighten any room. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, a testament to his boundless kindness and generosity. John's spirit touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at Phillips Funeral Home, located at 17 W Pulteney St., Corning, NY 14830. As we gather to remember and pay tribute to this remarkable man, we invite all who knew him to join us in sharing stories and memories that reflect the incredible life he led.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his giving nature and commitment to making the world a better place.
Though John H. Pettitt is no longer with us, his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May we all find comfort in the memories we hold dear and strive to live with the same grace and generosity that John embodied every day of his life.
