July 14, 1942 — April 19, 2026
It is with profound sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of John H. Norton Sr., who departed this world peacefully on April 19, 2026, at his cherished home in the comforting presence of his loving family. Born on July 14, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, John was a beacon of strength and compassion, whose life was a testament to the virtues of family, service, and community.
John was the beloved son of the late Thomas and Margaret Norton, who instilled in him the values of integrity and kindness that he carried throughout his life. He was predeceased by his dear brothers, Msgr. Daniel Norton and Mike Norton, and his sister, Mary Patricia Meehan, with whom he shared a deep familial bond.
John leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Emma, who was his steadfast partner and greatest support. Together, they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect. His legacy continues through his children: daughters, Mary Kathryn O'Brien and her husband John, and Annemarie Norton and her partner Joseph Guzman; and sons, John Norton Jr. and William Norton and his wife Valerie. John took immense pride in his role as a grandfather and was adored by his many grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who will miss his warmth and wisdom.
As the owner and founder of Norton Funeral Home in Williamstown, John served countless families with empathy and professionalism, providing solace during their most difficult times. His career as a Funeral Director in Pennsylvania and New Jersey was marked by an unwavering commitment to his community. After retiring, he continued to serve as an investigator for the Gloucester Camden Salem County Medical Examiner's Office, where his meticulous nature and compassionate spirit further distinguished his service.
John was a dedicated member of the Williamstown Sunrise Rotary, where he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others, and was a proud Friend of Bill W. for 49 years, offering support and hope to many. His faith was an integral part of his life, as seen in his involvement as a 4th degree Knight of Columbus at the Mater Christi Council 3352.
A celebration of John's remarkable life will be held at Our Lady of Peace/St. Mary Church, located at Carroll Ave and Main St., Williamstown, NJ, on April 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor the memory of a man whose life was a testament to love, service, and faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Mary School, reflecting John's lifelong commitment to education and community service.
John H. Norton Sr. touched the lives of many with his compassion and unwavering spirit. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love and service will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
