In Loving Memory

John Gunter
April 4, 1953 — May 15, 2026
It is with profound sadness and gentle remembrance that we announce the passing of John Gunter, a cherished husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and doting great-grandfather. John departed this world on May 15, 2026, at the age of 73, after a sudden heart attack. Though his departure was unexpected, his legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
John was born on April 4, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he would embark on a journey that touched countless lives. He was a man of unwavering strength and gentle humility, a combination that drew people to him and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jimme D Gunter, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with joy and warmth, nurturing a family that reflects the deep values and compassion they both cherished.
He was a loving father to his daughter, Teala Gunter, who was his pride and joy. John’s guidance and wisdom were pillars upon which Teala built her own life, instilling in her the same kindness and resilience that he exemplified each day.
John’s heart was full with the blessing of three grandchildren: Te’Asia Gunter, Augustine Gunter, and Octavia Cummings. His eyes would light up with pride and joy whenever he spoke of them. His legacy of love continues to grow with his two great-grandchildren, Ra'Mir and Tylil Smith, who brought him endless delight and reminded him of the beauty of life’s continuum.
John’s life will be celebrated on May 29, 2026, with a service at 11:00 AM at West Memorial, located at 1456 W Author St, Jackson, MS. This gathering will be a time for family and friends to honor John’s life and share in the memories that he has left behind—a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the quiet strength that defined him.
As we mourn the loss of John Gunter, we also celebrate a life well-lived, marked by generosity, faithfulness, and a spirit that will continue to inspire those who remain. May we find comfort in knowing that his journey continues in the love that surrounds us and the memories we hold dear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s memory to a charity of choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
John, though you have left this earth, you remain forever in our hearts. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the love you gave and the lessons you taught us. Rest in peace, dear John, knowing that you have left this world a better place simply by being in it.
