It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John Garibay, who departed this life on September 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with an illness. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by the warmth of his loved ones and the beauty of the life he so cherished.
Born on June 12, 1951, in Cuero, Texas, to Nicholas and Julia Garibay, John was a man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. He grew up in a close-knit family, learning the values of hard work and humility from his parents and siblings.
John was a proud member of the United States Army, serving his country with honor and distinction. His service was a reflection of his deep sense of duty and commitment to the values he held dear.
Beyond his military service, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, spending countless hours nurturing his flower garden, where each bloom was a reflection of his nurturing spirit. His carpentry work was more than a hobby; it was a craft that allowed him to create beauty and functionality, leaving behind pieces that will continue to tell his story. John’s BBQ Pit was often the center of family gatherings, where his laughter and spirit brought people together. His loyal companion, Mancha, was always by his side, sharing in the joy of those sunny afternoons.
John's legacy is carried forward by his cherished children, Itza Garibay and Juan Velasques, whose lives are a testament to his love and guidance. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Maria Alvarez, Manuela Dougay, Martha Cuellar, Gloria Solis, and Carol De Los Santos, who will forever remember him as a kind and loving brother.
He is reunited in peace with his beloved parents, Nicholas and Julia, his sister Ramona Galindo, and his brothers, Lupe Garibay Sr., Bisente Garibay, and Francisco Garibay, all of whom preceded him in death.
The family suggests that those who wish to honor John’s memory consider making a donation to a charity of their choice, a gesture that reflects John’s generous spirit and his desire to make the world a better place.
As we gather to celebrate John’s life, we remember a man whose kindness and strength touched all who knew him. His legacy of love and resilience will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be a part of his journey. Though he may be gone, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
