John G Hemmes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John G. Hemmes, a beloved son, husband, brother, and friend, who left us on August 10, 2026. Born on January 23, 1969, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, John lived a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure. John was the cherished son of Dennis and the late Dawn Hemmes. His mother Dawn and his nephew Jonathan Beckett predeceased him, and he is survived by his wife, Erica Hemmes, and his loving father, Dennis. John leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth with his stepsons, Desmond and Caleb Brown, and his granddaughter, Athena Brown. A graduate of Northview High School, John was known for his dedication and hard work in Construction Management as a Superintendent. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his passion for life outside of work. John found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was working in the garage with his brothers and friends, embarking on new adventures, or enjoying his annual fishing trips at fishing camp. His faithful canine companions, Max, Nuggets, and Dorian, were his constant companions and brought him boundless happiness. John's quick wit and warm smile were his trademarks. He possessed an unwavering kindness and generosity that touched the lives of many. To know John was to love him; his presence was a gift to all who were fortunate to cross his path. He is also survived by his brothers Danny (Tammy) and Thomas (Jill) Hemmes, his sister Joedy (Scott) Beckett, and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory and spirit. Family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by John are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service on August 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM with a short service at 5:00 PM. The service will be held at Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuaries, located at 3525 Remembrance Rd NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Humane Society of West Michigan, an organization close to his heart, located in Walker, MI. John G. Hemmes will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his boundless love, joyous spirit, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him.
