It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Fryters, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, on April 11, 2026, at the age of 77. John passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, surrounded by the love of his family and with the compassionate care of dedicated medical staff.
Born on October 8, 1948, in Belgium, John was the beloved son of Johannes and Anna Frijters. He grew up alongside his brother, Henk, and sister, Maria, both of whom have predeceased him. Despite these profound losses, John carried on with a resilient spirit and a heart full of love.
On December 13, 1969, John married the love of his life, Hannelore Korn. Together, they shared 56 years of unwavering love and companionship, raising three wonderful children who became the center of their world. John is survived by his devoted wife, Hannelore, who was his partner in life and love. Their journey together was marked by joy, resilience, and an unbreakable bond.
John leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: daughter Brigitte, who, alongside her husband Patrick Meeus, gave John the gift of grandchildren Ari, Timothy, and Twyla (with her spouse Brendan Matijiw and great-granddaughters Amalia and Elodie); son Detlef, who added grandson Joshua and granddaughter Jenine to John's cherished family; and daughter Manuela, with her husband Brad Everett, who blessed John with grandchildren Christopher (with his spouse Sarah and great-grandson Wesley), Maren, Bennett (with spouse Lauren), Abbey, and Nathaniel.
In total, John was blessed with ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life and whom he adored with all his heart.
John dedicated his life to serving others, passionately working in various human services roles. His career was marked by compassion and dedication, as he assisted recovering addicts, guided prison inmates, supported pregnant teens, and comforted those in hospice care. His missionary work took him to Peru, India, and South Sudan, where he touched countless lives with his kindness and unwavering faith.
For the last 32 years, John was a pillar of the Prince Albert community, known for his ministry and educational contributions. He was instrumental in starting Bible schools and church outreaches, always focusing on helping the vulnerable and uplifting those in need. His unwavering faith and dedication to uplifting others leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care during John's final days. Special thanks to Dr. James, nurses Bola and Stephanie, and their family doctor, Dr. Heather Ferguson, as well as Dr. Wells of Saskatoon, and Drs. Kevin and Mark Henbid, whose dedication and care provided comfort and peace.
