It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Fryters, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and pillar of the community. John passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loved ones at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Born on October 8, 1948, in Belgium, John was the cherished son of the late Johannes and Anna Frijters. He was predeceased by his dear brother Henk Frijters and sister Maria Snoeckx. John's journey was one of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.
In 1969, John married the love of his life, Hannelore Korn, embarking on a remarkable journey of 56 years together. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, and together they raised three wonderful children: Brigitte, Detlef, and Manuela.
John's career was a reflection of his deep compassion and desire to uplift others. He dedicated his life to human services, offering a helping hand to recovering addicts, prison inmates, pregnant teens, and those in hospice care. His missionary work took him to the corners of the world, including Peru, India, and South Sudan, where he spread kindness and hope.
For the last 32 years, John enriched the community of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, with his ministry and educational endeavors. His legacy includes the founding of Bible schools and church outreaches, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those he served. Known for his warmth and vision, he was a beacon of light to the vulnerable in society.
In his leisure time, John found solace and joy in fishing on the Bay of Quinte in Belleville, Ontario, a pastime that connected him to nature and offered moments of tranquility.
John is survived by his devoted wife Hannelore; his children Brigitte (Patrick Meeus), Detlef, and Manuela (Brad Everett); and his cherished grandchildren Ari, Timothy, Twyla, Brendan, Joshua, Jennie, Christopher (Sarah), Maren (Stefan Toivonen), Bennett (Lauren), Abbey, and Nathaniel. His legacy extends to his great-grandchildren Amalia, Eloidie, and Wesley, who will grow up with stories of his love and wisdom.
His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care during John's final days, with special thanks to Dr. James, nurses Bola and Stephanie, Dr. Wells, and Dr. Kevin Henbid.
In keeping with John’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his remarkable life and bid him a heartfelt farewell. The family invites those who knew John to hold him in their hearts and remember the joy and kindness he brought to all.
Though John has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, embraced by the love he so generously shared with others.
