John Friesen
January 3, 1934 — May 21, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Friesen, who departed this world peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on January 3, 1934, in the humble community of New Bothwell, Manitoba, John was the cherished son of John and Anna Friesen.
John's journey through life was marked by resilience, warmth, and an unfaltering dedication to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, three brothers, and four sisters, and now leaves behind a legacy that will endure through the lives he touched.
Survived by his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Mary, John was the steadfast rock and loving partner that every family dreams of. Their journey together was a beautiful testament to love, commitment, and shared adventure. John is also survived by his brothers, Peter (Betty) and Martin (Elma), sister Anna, and a cherished multitude of nieces and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts.
At a young age, John faced the sorrow of losing his mother. Despite this early hardship, his life was filled with purpose and a strong work ethic. At 14, he began working on the farm of John and Nellie Voth, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work and Nellie's unforgettable cooking. These early experiences on the farm shaped his character and instilled a love for the simpler joys of life. At 19, John embarked on a new chapter at the Manitoba Sugar Beet Factory in Winnipeg—a career that spanned four decades, during which he became a valued and respected member of the workforce.
John was a man of many talents and interests. A gifted handyman, he found joy in converting new vans into camper vans, which he and Mary used to explore the sunlit roads of Florida and Arizona. These journeys were a reflection of John's adventurous spirit and love for creating memories with his cherished wife.
Known for his easygoing nature and ability to make friends wherever he went, John's kindness and welcoming smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His life was a testament to the power of friendship and the importance of community.
A celebration of John's life will be held on May 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Birchwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the CMC Church, an organization close to John's heart.
John Friesen's memory will forever be a beacon of love, resilience, and friendship. Though he has left this world, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear John; you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
