John "Edward" Dyer

With hearts full of love and memories, we announce the passing of John "Edward" Dyer, who peacefully departed this world on June 7, 2026, at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born on November 29, 1959, Edward graced this world with his warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Edward was the cherished son of the late Willie Turner and the late Geraldine Dyer. He was preceded in death by his beloved brothers Alvin Dyer, Oliver Dyer, and Horace Dyer Sr., as well as his nephews, Horace Dyer Jr. and Lavoyce Marshyne Dyer. He is survived by his older brother, Willie Turner (Thelma), along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends who became family. A man of deep faith, Edward embraced the teachings of Christ from a young age and was baptized, beginning his spiritual journey at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. His faith was not only a personal anchor but a guiding light in the way he touched the lives of others. His commitment to his community was evident in his selfless acts of kindness, such as distributing food to those in need. Edward's educational journey began at Alice C. Fortier, where he graduated in 1977. His thirst for knowledge led him to Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he pursued his academic interests with zeal. His professional career in the hotel industry was marked by his unwavering dedication to hospitality and service, known for his warm smile that could brighten even the darkest of days. A proud bearer of the Dyer name, Edward and his late brother, Alvin, proudly wore their "Dyer's A/C and Heating" logo shirts as a tribute to their family's legacy. According to his apartment manager, Edward wore his shirt so often that she eventually assumed he had left the hotel industry to work for Dyer's A/C and Heating. It was a simple but meaningful reflection of the pride he took in his family and its name. Edward also embraced life with a playful spirit and found great joy in the vibrant traditions of Mardi Gras, a celebration he eagerly anticipated each year. Whether enjoying the festivities or sharing laughter with those around him, he treasured the moments that brought people together. Edward's life will be celebrated during a memorial service on August 1, 2026, at The Merry Go Round Hall, 8815 Hickory St., New Orleans, Louisiana. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m., where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, celebrate his remarkable life, and honor the legacy of love, kindness, and compassion he leaves behind. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the community and staff of Elysian Courtyards of Gentilly Apartments for the warmth, friendship, and kindness they showed Edward throughout the years. Their care and companionship brought him great comfort and will always be remembered with sincere appreciation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice in Edward's honor, reflecting Edward's generous spirit and lifelong love and desire to help others. Edward's legacy is one of love, compassion, humility, and unwavering faith. As we bid farewell to a beloved brother, uncle, and dear friend, we celebrate a life well lived and a heart that touched so many. His kindness, generosity, warm spirit, and quiet dedication to those around him will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his presence.
