It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Dyer, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on June 6, 2026, in Gentilly, New Orleans, Louisiana. Born on November 29, 1960, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Edward, as he was affectionately known, lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family and community. Edward was the cherished son of the late Willie Turner and the late Geraldine Dyer. He is now reunited in eternal rest with his brothers Alvin Dyer, Oliver Dyer, and Horace Dyer, who predeceased him in recent years. His legacy of compassion and kindness continues through his surviving brother, Willie Turner Jr., and his treasured nieces and nephews: Dina Dyer, Shelita Dyer, Karstan Dyer, Julian Dyer, and Lucious Dyer. Edward also leaves behind a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and countless friends, including his closest confidant and cousin, Greg Dyer. Edward's educational journey began at Alice C. Fortier, from which he graduated in 1975. He furthered his studies at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he pursued his passion for learning. Professionally, Edward found joy in serving others during his five-year tenure at the Marriott Hotel on Canal Street, where he was known for his warm smile and dedication to hospitality. A man of faith, Edward accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age, attending services at Mount Calvary Baptist Church throughout his life. His commitment to his faith was mirrored in his love for his community. Edward was a fervent supporter of his cousin, Judge Piper Griffin, during her campaign for the Louisiana Supreme Court. His passion for giving back was evident in his enthusiasm for Mardi Gras and his efforts to collect and distribute food to those in need. A celebration of Edward's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at The Merry Go Round Hall, located at 8815 Hickory St., New Orleans, Louisiana. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, and for those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available through the obituary professional funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Edward's memory. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the community of Gentilly Apartments for the warmth and kindness they showed Edward as neighbors and friends. Edward's generous spirit, unwavering love for his family, and commitment to his community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire acts of kindness and compassion.
