It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, John Evans Jr., who departed this world peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 69. John was surrounded by love and care at the Westside Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where he spent his final days.
Born on October 28, 1956, in the close-knit community of Mullins, South Carolina, John was the cherished son of the late Janie and John Evans. He was the second of four children and is predeceased by his parents and sister, Virginia Bradford, who have preceded him in welcoming John to eternal peace.
John’s life was a testament to dedication and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1977 to 1980, a period during which he embraced discipline, camaraderie, and duty. His service to the nation was marked by his unwavering commitment and genuine spirit, qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
Those who knew John remember him as a kind and gentle soul, with a heart as big as his laugh. He was deeply rooted in family values, often recounting stories of his childhood in Mullins with great fondness. John was particularly close to his surviving siblings, Betty Johnson and Peggy Mosher, with whom he shared countless memories and cherished bonds.
John was a man of many interests; an avid reader, he found joy in the pages of history and adventure. He was also a master storyteller, able to captivate an audience with tales that blended his life experiences with a touch of humor and wisdom. He had an innate ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on June 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The service will take place where he found solace and faith, among family and friends who cherished him dearly. This gathering will be an opportunity to honor John’s life, his service, and the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind.
John Evans Jr. will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle spirit and unwavering love for his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with those who have gone before him, resting in peace and love.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s memory to a veteran’s charity of your choice, ensuring that his legacy of service and dedication continues to make a difference.
May John’s soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
