John Ellis Foor

John Ellis Foor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully left this world on August 12, 2026, at the Martinsburg VA hospital. Born on December 13, 1943, in Bedford, Pennsylvania, John lived a life marked by service, adventure, and deep devotion to his family and community. John was the cherished son of Mary Athalie Foor and "Doc" Ellis John Foor. His early years in Bedford laid the foundation for a life of dedication and service. After completing his education, John answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. From November 4, 1963, to November 3, 1966, he served with honor, including a one-year tour in Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart. His military accolades also included the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge (M14), the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Medal. John was a proud member of the Army Pistol Team, a testament to his skill and dedication. Following his military service, John embarked on a career as a small aircraft pilot, transporting passengers and goods between Washington DC and Paducah, Kentucky. His passion for aviation led him to a long and fulfilling career as an air traffic controller at Washington Center in Leesburg from 1970 to 2001. During these years, he also volunteered tirelessly as a Fire Fighter EMT for Loudon County, Virginia, for 22 years. Upon retirement, John's adventurous spirit led him to Cape Coral, Florida, where he founded Pelicans Nest Realty, a real estate and property management company. He later moved to Falling Waters, West Virginia, to be closer to his sons and cherished grandchildren. John was a man of many passions. He loved boating, fishing, shooting, and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of several esteemed organizations, including the Shriners, the Elks Lodge, the Free Masons, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was also an active participant in the Potomac Fish and Game Club and was known for his generous spirit and willingness to donate his time and resources. John's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Diana Lynn Foor, his sons Jason William Foor and his wife Erin, Benjamin Jon Foor and his wife Sirirat, and his daughter Danyle Leigh Foor. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Meadow Foor and her husband Taylor, Madelyn Foor, Michael Foor, Byron Snyder, Braxton Foor, Emma Beattty, Annabel Beatty, and Robin Tyler. John was a man who made friends everywhere he went, with an outgoing personality and an infectious zest for life. His warmth, kindness, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Martinsburg VA hospital for their exceptional care and kindness during John's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. John Ellis Foor leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure.
