It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John Ellis Ericson, who departed this life on June 15, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on March 21, 1959, in the charming town of Nacogdoches, Texas, John was the cherished son of the late Dr. Joe Ellis Ericson and Carolyn Reeves Ericson, both of whom preceded him in death.
John's life was a testament to the power of humor, kindness, and unwavering dedication. He was known for his quirky wit and dry humor, qualities that endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John possessed a level-headed and caring nature, coupled with a loving and honest soul, that made him a pillar of strength for his family and friends.
John spent his formative years in Nacogdoches, graduating from Nacogdoches High School in 1977. His passion for technology and learning led him to Stephen F. Austin State University, where he earned a Master's degree in Computer Science. His career in IT was marked by creativity and innovation, having developed multiple programs for his mother's genealogy business. This work took him to Kansas City, MO, where he honed his skills and made lasting friendships, before returning to his roots in Nacogdoches in 2006.
Upon his return, John found his professional home at the Nacogdoches County Court House, where he dedicated his talents and expertise until his passing. He was a reliable and steadfast presence, always someone you could count on in times of need.
John's personal life was enriched by his marriage to Bonnie Marlin Shull in 2006. Although their paths eventually diverged, John embraced the role of a father with open arms, becoming a devoted stepfather to Marlene E. Shull, Victoria R. Shull, and William A. Shull. His love and commitment to them was unwavering, and he took pride in being a guiding figure in their lives. John's legacy lives on in the hearts of his stepchildren and his eight cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
John's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. An avid movie watcher, he found joy in the cinematic arts, often sharing his favorite films with those around him. His love for music was evident in his guitar playing, and he found solace and creativity in the strings of his beloved instrument. In his leisure time, John enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie of computer games, a testament to his ever-curious spirit.
John leaves behind a loving family, including his siblings, Linda Diane Devereaux and Joseph Ericson, who will forever cherish the memories of their brother's warmth and humor, and his stepchildren and grandchildren, who will continue to be inspired by his love and dedication.
The family invites all who knew John to join them in celebrating his life, a life that was rich in love, laughter, and genuine compassion for others. A memorial service will be held in his hometown of Nacogdoches, where friends and family will gather to honor a man whose spirit touched so many.
John Ellis Ericson will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
