November 4, 1928 — May 7, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of John Edward Goff, who peacefully left this world on May 7, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on November 4, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, John was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him. John was the cherished son of the late Harrison and Edna Goff, who instilled in him the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Virginia, and his adored wife, Emily, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. A proud graduate of Godwin High School in 1946, John’s journey led him to serve his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy. As a Navy photographer, he captured moments of history, blending his artistic eye with his unwavering sense of duty. John found his professional calling with State Farm Insurance, dedicating 25 years to helping others. He was not just an insurance agent; he was a confidant and friend to many, always embodying the spirit of a Good Neighbor. His clients were more than just business associates; they were friends who became family. A man of many interests, John’s heart was truly at home on the golf course. His passion for the game was unmatched, and he spent countless joyful hours as a vital member of the senior's golf league. His love for golf was more than just a pastime; it was a testament to his zest for life and his appreciation for camaraderie and sport. John was also an active member of several organizations, including the Moose Lodge #763, the Elks, the VFW, and the American Legion. Through these affiliations, he forged enduring friendships and contributed to his community with dedication and heart. Above all, John was a family man. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Lori Goff (Bill Murphy), John Goff (Terri), Christine Goff-Buman (Todd Buman), and Matthew Goff (Sherry Rivera). His six grandchildren, Kayleigh Goff (Jake Hains), Evan and Allysa Murphy, Erin, Emily, and Paige Goff, and his great-grandchild, Jeremiah, were his pride and joy. John's family was his greatest achievement, and his love for them was boundless. John was a force of life, known for his humor and endless stories that brought smiles to all. Loved by many, he touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. In a private ceremony, John will be laid to rest alongside his beloved Emily, enveloped in the love of family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor John by taking a moment to share a story, a laugh, or a round of golf in his memory. As we say goodbye to an extraordinary man, we hold dear the special message from his family: "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Forever my hero, forever my dad." Rest in peace, John Edward Goff. Your legacy of love, laughter, and life will forever remain in our hearts.
