John "Edward" Dyer, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on November 29, 1959, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Edward was the cherished son of the late Willie Turner and Geraldine Dyer. A man whose life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and community spirit, Edward's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Edward's educational journey began at Alice C. Fortier, where he laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for learning. He furthered his studies at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Here, he not only gained knowledge but also cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. Professionally, Edward found his calling in the hotel industry, where his warm smile and unwavering dedication to hospitality left a lasting impression on colleagues and guests alike. A man of deep faith, Edward accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age. His spiritual journey led him to attend services at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, as well as other community churches, where he found solace and strength. Edward's commitment to his faith was mirrored in his unwavering love for his community. He was a fervent supporter of his cousin, Judge Piper Griffin, during her campaign for the Louisiana Supreme Court, a testament to his belief in justice and equality. Edward was a man of many passions. He was a proud and loving supporter of Mardi Gras, a celebration that perfectly encapsulated his zest for life and love for his city. His compassion extended beyond festivities, as he dedicated time to collect and distribute food to those in need, ensuring no one in his community went without. Family was Edward's cornerstone. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alvin Dyer (2023), Horace Dyer Sr. (2025), and Oliver Dyer (2024), as well as his nephews, Horace Dyer Jr. and Lavoyce Marshayne Dyer. Despite these losses, Edward remained a pillar of strength for his surviving family, which includes numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends. One of Edward's proudest achievements was his association with the family business, "Dyer's A/C and Heating." Alongside his brother Alvin, he cherished the legacy of their last name, often seen wearing a shirt bearing the company’s name. His dedication to the business was so profound that it was almost assumed he had transitioned from the hotel industry to fully embrace this endeavor. His early morning starts and hard work at the A/C company were a testament to his pride in the "Dyer" name, a legacy he carried with honor and joy. Edward's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering support for those he loved. Though he has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Edward's memory to local food banks or charities supporting community welfare, causes close to Edward's heart. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
