John E. Hawthorne

August 13, 1943 — October 14, 2026

John E. Hawthorne, native of Abbeville Louisiana and a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at Landmark of Ryan nursing home on October 14, 2026. Born on August 13, 1943, in Abbeville, Louisiana, John lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, love for his family, and an unwavering spirit. John was the cherished son of Willie and Edna Hawthorne, who predeceased him, along with his dear son, John C. Hawthorne, and brother, Willie Hawthorne Jr. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Charlene Sampy, residing in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and his loving sister, Pauline Hawthorne, of Abbeville, Louisiana. John's legacy continues through his five adored grandchildren— Carmela Museaux ( Marc) of Ft Lauderdale Florida and Craig Jordon Lewis of Abbeville, Louisiana; Nicholas Hawthorne of Lafayette, Louisiana; Alex Hawthorne of New York, New York; and Briana Sampy of Carencro, Louisiana as well as his precious great-grandchild Maliyan Lewis of Abbeville, Louisiana and his nephew Kibbie Pillette Jr. (Renee) of Waco Texas. A self-employed carpenter, John's work was not just a career; it was his life's passion. He poured his heart and soul into every project, leaving behind not just structures, but memories and a testament to his skilled craftsmanship. His love for carpentry was known to all, and he took great pride in his ability to create and transform with his hands. He never knew how to sit still. He was always working, fixing on something, or finding another project to take on at one of his houses. His hands were rarely still because there was always something that needed to be repaired, built, or made better. He worked until his body simply could not let him work anymore. Now, we find comfort knowing that his work here on earth is finished. We believe Dad/PawPaw has entered his eternal home, where he can continue doing what he loved most-working with his hands, fixing things, and making everything better. We can imagine him in Heaven with a new project, saying, "Let me see what i can fix." Rest peacefully Dad/PawPaw. John’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warm smile, gentle laugh, and generous spirit touched the lives of many, and his memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends.

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace. Amen.
