October 7, 1943 — November 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of John E. Beck, who departed this world on November 2, 2026, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on October 7, 1943, in Lumberton, North Carolina, John was the beloved son of Paul and Emma Beck. He was a cherished brother, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. John's life journey was marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community. He graduated from Schroon Lake Central School in 1962 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He completed his service with the rank of Airman First Class. While stationed in Singapore, John met the love of his life, Rosalind Mooney, who was serving in the Women's Royal Air Force. Their whirlwind courtship of just 39 days led to a beautiful marriage on October 8, 1966, in Rosalind's hometown of Birmingham, England. The couple settled in Schroon Lake, NY, where they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they raised three wonderful children: Gregg (Abbie), Lisa, and Kimberly (Kim). Following his military service, John continued to protect and serve, joining the New York State Police. His distinguished career spanned over two decades, including 7 years as a State Trooper and 15 as an investigator for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Upon retirement, John worked at Friedman Realty and Glebus Realty. He also served 15 years as a security officer for International Paper in Ticonderoga, NY. John was an active part of his community, serving as a commissioner for the Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Lion's Club and the NYS Police Benevolent Association, as well as serving as one of the founding members of the Schroon Lake Horsemen's Association. John loved sharing stories about his childhood in North Carolina and his experiences in the state police. His warmth, humor, and sincerity touched everyone he met. John's love for horses and gardening was matched only by his love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. John is survived by his beloved wife Rosalind; their children Gregg (Abbie), Lisa, and Kimberly (Kim); his treasured grandchildren Caleb (Tiffany) Bauer, Emily (Josh) Cole, Zach Beck, Kaycee Bauer, Cody Beck, Luke Beck, Kendall Beck; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Java (George) and Joann Storey (Joe). John was predeceased by his parents Paul and Emma Beck, his sister Marie DeMarsh, and a special family friend, Margaret Haroff. A celebration of John's life will be held Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Mountainside Chapel, located on Rt 9, Schroon Lake, NY 12870. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Schroon Lake food pantry.
