It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Douglas LeMarr Sr., who departed this world peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on January 1, 1944, in the charming town of Winchester, Virginia, John began his journey surrounded by the love of his parents, Donald Otto LeMarr and Lorene Bucher LeMarr.
John was a man whose life was a testament to dedication, service, and love. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Edgar, Earl, James, and Gene, as well as his two sisters, Cleo and Bunny. He also faced the heartbreaking loss of his son, John Douglas LeMarr Jr. Despite these profound losses, John remained a pillar of strength for his family and community.
On July 25, 1964, John married the love of his life, Kitty Lou Huffman, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Together, they built a beautiful life, sharing nearly 64 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with three children: Jennifer Lofton, who, along with her partner Louie, carries forward her father's legacy of kindness; Jason LeMarr, who, with his wife Dee, reflects John's integrity and dedication. John's pride and joy were undoubtedly his grandchildren, Jacob, Gabriel, and Elizabeth, who brought immense happiness to his later years.
John's career was marked by his unwavering commitment to public service. He dedicated 25 years to the Winchester City Police Department, where he became a respected figure known for his fairness and compassion. Following his retirement, John continued to serve his community as a DARE officer for the Frederick Sheriff’s Office and later as a Resource Officer at James Wood High School and Frederick County Middle School. His influence as a mentor to young people was immeasurable, and he took great pride in guiding them towards brighter futures.
An active member of the Ole Fredericktown Fraternal Order of Police, John held various local and state positions, earning the admiration and respect of his peers. His second home was the Minebank Hunt Club, where he shared countless adventures with dear friends. Hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his buddy Kevin were among the cherished pastimes that filled John's life with joy.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Kitty, his children, grandchildren, and his siblings, Alida O’Neal and her husband Steve, Leroy LeMarr and his wife Jannie, and Wayne LeMarr. His sister-in-law, Becky Rickard, and her husband Larry, along with many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, will forever cherish his memory. John's loyal companions, Buster and Fred, were never far from his side, providing him comfort and companionship.
As we bid farewell to John, we celebrate a life of integrity, love, and service. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. A memorial service will be held to honor John's remarkable life at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in John’s memory.
