John Delancey Salera

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Delancey Salera, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home on August 24, 2026, following a courageous battle with kidney disease. Born on May 3, 1946, in Oakland, California, John was the cherished son of Virgil and June Salera, who predeceased him. John’s journey through life was marked by a deep dedication to his family and an unwavering zest for living. In December 1974, he married the love of his life, Catherine Kenney, forming a bond that spanned over 52 wonderful years. Together, they raised two devoted daughters, Courtney Soifer and Corinne Harris, who brought immense joy to their lives, along with their husbands, Matt and Damien. His legacy continues through his three adored granddaughters, Hanna, Evie, and Calynn, who brought him boundless happiness. A proud graduate of Hayward High School, Class of 1964, John pursued his academic passions at Stanford University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1968 and an MBA in 1970. His professional career began at Arthur Anderson Consulting, eventually leading him into the world of real estate. John’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished as he successfully navigated roles at First National Bank of Chicago, Foremost McKesson, and Citation Homes before establishing himself as a prominent real estate developer. John was an active and cherished member of several organizations, including the Bohemian Club, the Italian American Social Club of Menlo Park, and the Peninsula Partners Investment Club. His college days were filled with camaraderie as a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. A lover of sports, John excelled in football, basketball, and tennis during his high school years and was a valued member of Stanford’s Men’s Golf Team. His passion for golf remained with him throughout his life, as a member of both Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club and Monterey Peninsula Country Club, where he delighted in both golf and bridge. Beyond his professional and sporting achievements, John was celebrated for his quick wit, warmth, and willingness to help others in their times of need. His generous spirit touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Together with his beloved wife Kitty, John embraced a life of adventure, traveling across all the world’s continents, often sharing these journeys with their closest friends. While funeral services will be private, a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, allowing all who loved him to gather and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations may be made to a charity of your choice in John’s memory. The Salera family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Vi at Palo Alto for their unwavering support and care provided to Kitty following John’s passing. John Delancey Salera will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever light the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
