In Loving Memory

John David Ladson
August 30, 1952 — May 1, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved John David Ladson, who departed this world peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on August 30, 1952, in Greenville, South Carolina, John was a cherished son of the late Margaret Ladson Gatewood and Johnny Butler. He was lovingly raised in a family that taught him the values of kindness, integrity, and faith—principles that he carried throughout his remarkable journey.
John's life was a testament to the beauty of simple pleasures and the joys of family. He attended Taft High School, where his charismatic spirit and infectious laughter made him a beloved friend to many. It was there that he met Deborah Stewart, the love of his life. They married on January 5, 1973, and their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Sharlana and Granada. Though their marriage ended after 13 years, John and Deborah maintained a bond of cherished memories and mutual respect.
John was a man of dedication and service. He spent several years working with the City of Cincinnati Park Board before transitioning to a fulfilling career as a janitor in various hospital settings. His work was more than a job; it was a calling that allowed him to touch countless lives with his generosity, humor, and unwavering dedication.
A master storyteller, John's tales were filled with laughter and wisdom, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to hear them. His ability to bring joy to those around him was a gift that he shared freely and often. His legacy of love lives on in his children, Sharlana Rucker (Richard), Granada Thompson (Sean), and Jeffrey; His Grandchildren, Napoleon, William, Asia, Shanice,Demetria (Marcus) Hardeman and Demarco; and his ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Marvin, Shirley, Roscoe Jr., Francis Hambrick (Roger), Patricia Johnson (Harold), and James (Wendy), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his stepfather, Roscoe Gatewood, Sr., and his brother, Jerome Gatewood. Though they have left this earthly plane, their spirits surely welcomed John with open arms.
