It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Curry Walker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born on September 29, 1923, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, John graced this world with his warmth and kindness for nearly 73 years before passing away on September 21, 1996. John was the cherished son of Curry and Beatrice Walker and the grandson of John and Mary Walker, and J.L. and Belle Yancey. Raised in a loving family, John carried forward the values of compassion, integrity, and dedication instilled in him by his parents and grandparents. In life, John was fortunate to find a soulmate in his devoted wife, Katherine Walker. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, nurturing a family that became their proudest legacy. Their union was blessed with three children: John Richard, Janet Lee (married to Duane), and Ronald Mack (married to Kaye). John was a supportive and caring father, always encouraging his children's dreams and aspirations. His sister, Gail Thompson, and her husband Jessie, were dear to John's heart, sharing countless family memories and cherished moments over the years. John was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Thresia Walker, whose memory he held dear. John's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Melanie Ewing (Kevin), Gregory Crider, Christy Walker, Jenna Crider, John David Walker, Katherine Walker, and Garret Walker. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was a steadfast source of wisdom and encouragement. The joy of his life was further enriched by the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Alicia Ewing, who brought a twinkle to his eye and warmth to his heart. A man of deep faith and community spirit, John was known for his generous heart and commitment to helping others. His life was a testament to selfless service, and he touched countless lives with his genuine kindness and compassion. In memory of John's life and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, allowing his spirit of generosity to continue helping those in need. John Curry Walker will be remembered for his unwavering love, his gentle spirit, and the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
