John Colon

October 28, 1945 — October 10, 2026

John Colon, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away on October 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Born on October 28, 1945, in Brooklyn, John was the cherished son of Josephine and Juan Colon. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael, sister Joanie, brother-in-law Dominick, and nephew Peter. John's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of community. On December 13, 1981, John married his soulmate, Carol Pisapia, in Brooklyn. Together, they shared a beautiful journey spanning 51 years, filled with love, laughter, and numerous dance-offs to Latin music. Carol fondly recalls trying to keep pace with John on the dance floor, although his passion for Latin rhythms was unparalleled, resonating deeply with his Puerto Rican roots despite not speaking Spanish. John's professional career was marked by dedication and camaraderie. He worked as a communications specialist for Verizon for 36 years, retiring in 2001. Known for his supportive nature, John was more than just a co-worker; he was a friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. A man of varied interests, John found immense joy in boating and fishing. One of his favorite memories was watching his niece, Christine, reel in a 15-pound striped bass. Lake George held a special place in his heart, not only for its beauty but for the friendships he cultivated there. John's love of gardening was evident in his flourishing roses and geraniums, reflecting his appreciation for all things beautiful and natural. John was a wonderful gentleman, a phrase often used to describe his character. His charm and generosity were unmatched, and he had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and valued. A dedicated DIY enthusiast, John was always eager to help friends and neighbors with home projects, a testament to his giving spirit. He enjoyed the company of his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. He was inspired by their growth into beautiful human beings. John is survived by his beloved wife Carol, his brother Peter and sister-in-law Rose, and sister-in-law Anna Marie. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
