In Loving Memory

John Clarkson
August 9, 1948 — July 20, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Clarkson, who left this world peacefully at his home on July 20, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. Born on August 9, 1948, in the charming town of North Tonawanda, New York, John lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and dedication.
John graduated from North Tonawanda High School, where he began to cultivate the qualities that would define him — a love for storytelling and a knack for making others smile with his jokes. His early years were marked by a sense of duty and service, which led him to proudly serve in the United States Air Force, where he developed a lifelong respect for discipline and camaraderie.
Throughout his life, John was passionate about fishing, tinkering with cars, and, most importantly, spending cherished moments with his family. His love for the great outdoors and his mechanical talent were surpassed only by his devotion to his loved ones. He relished the laughter and joy of his grandchildren, Phineus, Penelope, Shane, and Sofia, and took immense pride in their every accomplishment.
John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Cathy, a loving father to his daughter, Violet, and his son, John Jr. His family was the centerpiece of his world, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. He was predeceased by his brother, David, whom he dearly missed and now joins in eternal rest.
As a man who always had a story to tell, John's presence would light up any room, leaving those around him with smiles and memories to cherish. His humor and kindness were as consistent as the tides, bringing joy and comfort to all who knew him.
In accordance with John's wishes, a private celebration of his remarkable life will be held at a later date for family and close friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor John's memory may contribute to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart, located in Memphis, TN.
John Clarkson's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and unwavering strength, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his spirit live on in the stories we share and the love we give.
