John Brooks

John Brooks, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on August 8, 2026, at his home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love. Born on March 12, 1961, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Lewis Merrell and Imogene (Jeannie) Brooks, John was a light in the lives of all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Robert and Dorothy Gallivan. John is survived by his devoted wife, Susan (Gallivan) Brooks, with whom he shared 27 blissful years of marriage. Their union, celebrated on September 11, 1999, in League City, Texas, was filled with joyous adventures, from cruising the seas to exploring the open roads. Their love story was marked by laughter, shared dreams, and a bond that grew stronger with each passing year. Also cherishing his memory are his sister, Kala Brooks, and sister-in-law, Kay Gallivan. John graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery and soon thereafter answered the call to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1983. His military career was distinguished by the Rifle Expert Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Meritorious Mast, reflecting his dedication and excellence. Following his honorable discharge, John embarked on an illustrious career at NASA, where he worked in Mission Control and contributed to numerous projects over the years. After retiring from NASA, his passion for service led him to the Pearland Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer firefighter and Lieutenant at Station 3. He also served as a reserve officer with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Outside of his professional life, John found great joy in woodworking, car restoration, and gardening. His vegetable garden yielded bountiful produce, which he loved to incorporate into his culinary creations. Fishing at his mother's property in Opp, Alabama, brought him peace and happiness, connecting him to his roots and family legacy. John was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and an ever-present sense of humor that could brighten any room. His generous spirit and readiness to assist others left an indelible mark on everyone he met. A service to honor John's life will be held on September 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Peevey Funeral Home, located at 12440 Beamer Road, Houston, TX 77089. Following the service, a Celebration of Life luncheon will take place at the Knights of Columbus, 2320 Hatfield Rd, Pearland, TX 77581. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Houston K 911 Rescue, an organization close to John's heart. His memory will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
