In Loving Memory

John Belushi
January 24, 1949 — March 5, 1982
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John Adam Belushi, who left this world far too soon on March 5, 1982, at the age of 33. Born on January 24, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, John was a force of nature whose boundless energy and unique comedic talent touched the lives of many.
John was the cherished son of Adam and Agnes Belushi, who remember him as a whirlwind of joy and laughter. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith "Judy" Jacklin, whom he married on New Year's Eve in 1976. Their love story began in high school and blossomed into a beautiful marriage filled with shared dreams and laughter. John is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Marian, Jim, and Billy, who each held a special place in his heart.
John's educational journey began at Wheaton Central High School, from which he graduated in 1967. He continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and the College of DuPage, where he earned a general studies degree in June 1970, before attending the University of Illinois Chicago Circle. His academic path reflected his relentless curiosity and passion for learning.
John's professional life was a testament to his extraordinary talent and irrepressible spirit. He rose to fame as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live from 1975 to 1979, where his feral, physical humor became legendary. John redefined comedy in the 1970s with his fearless approach to absurdity. His performances in iconic films such as National Lampoon's Animal House and his co-creation of the Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd left an indelible mark on the entertainment world.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a man of varied interests and passions. He found joy in playing the drums, indulging in improvisational comedy, and attending live rock and roll concerts. His uncontainable energy was a constant source of inspiration to those who knew him, and his laughter was infectious.
A service to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on March 9, 1982, at 12:00 PM at the West Tisbury Congregational Church, located at 1051 State Rd, West Tisbury, MA 02575. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the John Belushi Memorial Foundation, supporting the John Belushi Scholarship Fund, to continue his legacy of bringing laughter and joy to the world.
John Belushi was a light that burned brightly, albeit briefly, and his presence will be deeply missed. As we remember him, let us hold onto his favorite words: "Just don't leave me alone." May his spirit continue to inspire us to live with the same passion, humor, and fearlessness that he embodied in life.
