John Bartlett Moore

It is with a profound sense of loss and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of John Bartlett Moore, who departed this world peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 81. John was born on May 18, 1945, in San Francisco to the late John Max Moore and Mary Cowles Moore. John led a life marked by dedication, love, and leadership. He formed a lifelong partnership with Cathy McAuliffe, his devoted partner, who stood by his side through every chapter. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Bart and Morgan Moore, who continue to carry forward his legacy. John's family extended further to Brad and Megan Emery and their daughters, Lauren, Taylor, and Sarah, as well as Casey and Kelly Ryan and their children, Michael and Bailey. A proud alumnus of UC Berkeley, John graduated with a degree in economics after a distinguished high school career in football at Grant Town Lowell. He went on to serve his country with valor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Lieutenant and being awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal for his exemplary service. John's professional journey was equally illustrious. He held significant financial positions within the family business, Moore Companies, where he served on the Board of Directors and as secretary-treasurer. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the presidency of Tuff Lite Inc. and the founding of The Sales Group. In 2015, he retired from Genworth Financial, bringing to a close a career marked by innovation and commitment. His influence extended beyond his professional life into numerous organizations and clubs. John was the 1st Vice President of the Guardsmen and served on the Board of Directors. He was a former member of both the Olympic Club and the Bohemian Club and was instrumental in founding the Valley of the Moon camp at Bohemian Grove. His passion for an active lifestyle was evident through his memberships at the Silverado Country Club, Oakwood Athletic Club, and his presidency at the Rossmoor Golf Club. John found joy in simple pleasures like playing golf, swimming, engaging in a game of bridge, and taking long walks. These hobbies not only brought him peace but also deepened the bonds with his friends and family. In memory of John, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting the spirit of giving that he embodied throughout his life. John Bartlett Moore will be remembered as a compassionate leader, a devoted family man, a patriotic soldier, and a cherished friend.
