July 15, 1966 — April 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Barry Markway, who departed this world peacefully at his home in Jefferson City, Missouri, on April 21, 2026, surrounded by his cherished loved ones. Born on July 15, 1966, to Marcellus and Pauline Markway, John was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, passion, and unwavering love for life. John's journey began in the vibrant community of Jefferson City, where he was born and raised. From a young age, he exhibited a natural curiosity and an eagerness to explore the world around him. This adventurous spirit was evident in his love for being near water, whether bowfishing at Mark Twain Lake or searching for fossils along the Osage River. These activities were not just hobbies but a testament to his deep appreciation for nature and the simple joys it offered. In 1992, John married the love of his life, Lisa Renee Markway, in their hometown. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Their union, which spanned 33 wonderful years, was blessed with two incredible children, Lorelei Nelson (Jeremiah) and Caleb Markway, who were the pride and joy of John’s existence. His legacy continues through his delightful granddaughters, Liliana, Evelyn, and Danielle Nelson, who brought immense light and happiness into his life. A dedicated and skilled craftsman, John worked as a self-empowering carpenter for over three decades, leaving a mark of excellence and integrity in every project he undertook. His career, which began at Jude Markway Construction, was characterized by a profound commitment to quality and a genuine passion for his craft. John’s work was not just about building structures; it was about creating spaces that reflected the love and care he put into everything he did. John was predeceased by his parents, Marcellus and Pauline Markway, his sister MaryBeth Martz, brother Christopher Markway, and beloved nephews Michael and Gabriel Rieke. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa, his children Lorelei and Caleb, and his adored granddaughters. His life is also celebrated by his siblings Marc (Betty) Markway, Dennis (Pam) Markway, Jude (Mary) Markway, Albert (Debbie) Markway, Donna (Wayne) Bernskoetter, Emily (Gary) Crawford, and Rita Paul, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their memories of him. John's generosity and compassion extended beyond his family and friends, as he was a staunch supporter of the Day Solutions Foundation. In his honor, a memorial fund has been established, the John Markway Memorial Fund, to continue his legacy of giving and community support. As we remember John, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, adventure, and an unyielding spirit of generosity. His memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him. A private ceremony will be held to honor his life, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the John Markway Memorial Fund. May John Barry Markway rest in eternal peace, forever embraced by the love of those who cherished him.
