Joe Thomas Howard
June 29, 1947 — June 17, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Joe Thomas Howard, who peacefully departed this world on June 17, 2026, in Dyersburg, TN, just shy of his 79th birthday. Born on June 29, 1947, in the warm embrace of Lenox, TN, Joe carried the spirit of his birthplace with him wherever he journeyed.
Joe was the cherished son of the late L.J. and Cora Ann (Tate) Howard, who, along with his beloved wife, Carolyn Faye Howard, two sisters, Minnie Zaricore and Madie (Pete) Climer, and four brothers, Walter, James, Billy, and L.J. Howard Jr., have predeceased him. Their memory remains etched in his heart and the stories he shared with those fortunate enough to have known him.
A devoted family man, Joe is survived by his two loving daughters, Corie Michelle Howard of Dyersburg, TN, and Joyce Shelly of Kentucky, who were his pride and joy. He was a doting grandfather to Latica Rushing of Tampa, FL, whose visits and accomplishments brought him endless delight. Joe is also survived by his dear sister, Edna (Dale) Gibson of Texarkana, AR, and two sister-in-laws, Goldie (Walter) Howard and Pat (James) Howard, along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends who cherished his warm presence and generous spirit.
A hardworking and dedicated individual, Joe retired in 2006 after a fulfilling career marked by determination and integrity. In retirement, he embraced his passions wholeheartedly. Joe was an avid fisherman, finding tranquility in the gentle ebb and flow of the water. He relished the joy of friendly competition while playing Yahtzee, and he was an enthusiastic traveler, ever eager to explore new horizons. Whether basking in the sun on a sandy beach or wandering the serene woods, Joe found beauty and solace in nature's embrace. Above all, his family was his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment spent in their company.
A celebration of Joe's life will take place on June 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Halls Funeral Home, located at 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN. In this gathering, we will remember and honor a man whose life touched so many with love, laughter, and kindness.
Joe Thomas Howard leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him. As we bid farewell, we do so with the comfort of knowing that his journey continues in the memories we share and the love he imparted.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the warmth of family and the beauty of the world he so cherished.
