October 26, 1957 — October 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Prokup, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who peacefully passed away at home on October 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with kidney and liver failure. Born on October 26, 1957, in Porum, Oklahoma, Joe lived a life marked by love, dedication, and unwavering faith. Joe was the cherished son of Coy Veron Prokup and Lorena Edwina Thomas Prokup, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara, who was his constant companion and partner in life since their marriage on October 15, 1976. Joe’s legacy of love continues through his brother David, sisters Kathleen, Oleta, and Mary, and his beloved daughters Carol, Kari, and Kati. He was a proud grandfather to Aiden, Macenna, and Josiah, who brought immense joy to his life. A bright student, Joe graduated as the salutatorian of Porum High School in 1975 and pursued further education for a year in college. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his 38-year career as a machinist at Barker Oil Tools, where he was respected for his dedication and skill. Joe was a man of deep faith, actively participating in the First Baptist Church of Haskell for over 40 years. He lived his faith through his actions, always showing unconditional love towards all and offering support to his daughters in all their endeavors. He was passionate about teaching others about God, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. In his leisure time, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, and taking trips to the zoo. Family vacations to Branson were among his cherished memories, and he was happiest when surrounded by his family, whom he cared for deeply. Joe's family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time. In honoring Joe's memory, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting the generosity that he embodied throughout his life. A private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Joe’s life and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. The family would like to share a special message that encapsulates Joe’s journey and faith, "The Footprints Prayer." This poignant reminder of faith and divine companionship reflects the strength and hope Joe carried with him, even in the most challenging times. Joe Prokup will be deeply missed, but his spirit of love and dedication will forever remain in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Joe Prokup welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
