It is with deep sadness and profound respect that we announce the passing of Joe Taylor, who departed from this life on July 25, 2026, at Montcare Nursing Home in Wheaton, Maryland. Born on April 15, 1946, in Nash County, North Carolina, Joe led a life marked by dedication, love, and service. Joe was the cherished son of John Jasper and Kattie Belle Taylor, who instilled in him values of hard work and faith that he carried throughout his life. He spent his early years in the warmth of his family in North Carolina, a place that forever held a special spot in his heart. Joe’s professional journey began in Maintenance and Residential Services, where he honed his skills and developed a keen eye for detail. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own company, an LLC in Home Improvement Maintenance, where he poured his passion and expertise into every project. His commitment to his community extended far beyond his professional life. Joe served as a Deacon at The Pilgrim Baptist Church of Silver Spring, Maryland, where he was honored with a plaque for his dedicated and faithful service to God. His contributions to the church were not only a testament to his unwavering faith but also to his desire to uplift and support those around him. Joe's personal life was a testament to his capacity for love and devotion. He was a beloved husband to Carolyn Mercer Taylor, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years. He leaves behind two sons, Cornelius Q. Harrison of Emporia, Virginia, and Seneca Surles of Washington, D.C., a daughter, Lisa Williams of Washington, D.C., and two stepsons, Timothy and James Silver. Joe was also a cherished brother to three sisters, Nellie Hales of Louisburg, N.C., Lucy G. Taylor, and Hattie Mitchell of Rocky Mount, N.C., and six beloved sisters-in-laws. The legacy of love and wisdom Joe leaves behind is carried forward by his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into his life. His memory will also be cherished by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends who had the privilege of knowing him. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Montcare Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and excellent service during this challenging time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and desire to make the world a better place. Joe Taylor’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, service, and integrity. He touched the hearts of many and will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful. He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So, he closed your weary eyelids and whispered, ‘Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
