In loving memory, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Joe (JW) Willie Newell, who departed this life on August 1, 2026, surrounded by family and enveloped in love. Born on August 29, 1932, in the warm and welcoming town of Bay Springs, Mississippi, Joe graced this world for nearly 94 vibrant years. His journey, marked by resilience and warmth, leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Joe was the cherished son of the late John Fuller Newell and Gertrude Perryman Newell, whose nurturing spirits undoubtedly shaped his gentle nature. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his three brothers, Lester, John Jr., and Sam Newell, and his three sisters, Lillie Mae Norman, Lovell Laster, and Mary Ousley. Their memories were always close to his heart, and he held them dear throughout his life. In 1988, Joe's life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Marie, in the sunny landscapes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Their union in 1990 marked the beginning of a devoted partnership that spanned decades. Together, they built a family foundation rooted in love and mutual respect. Joe's legacy continues through his four daughters, JoAnn (Tony), Angela, Rita, and Rieshun, and his two sons, Joel and Jason. He also leaves behind his sister, Martha Hinton, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride. Joe was a trailblazer in his professional life, dedicating 44 years to Phillip and Jordan as a land clearing contractor. As one of the first African-American men to operate heavy machinery for the company, he paved the way for future generations with quiet determination and an unwavering work ethic. In January 2007, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Away from his professional achievements, Joe was a man of varied interests. He was an avid follower of western movies, boxing, and basketball, immersing himself in the stories and excitement they offered. Known for his calm demeanor and warm smile, Joe had an unmatched ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke or a touch of humorous sarcasm. His presence was a comforting balm to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A service to honor Joe's life will be held on August 31, 2026, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the remarkable journey of a man who touched countless lives with his kindness, strength, and warmth.
