It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Hayes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Joe peacefully left this world on September 8, 2026, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 14, 1960, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Joe graced the lives of all who knew him with his warmth and humor. Joe was the beloved son of Bobby and Peggy, who instilled in him the values of dedication and kindness. He was preceded in death by his dear son, Zachary, and leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Linda, and his sons Trevor, Tyler, Toby, and Tanner, who continue to embody his spirit and legacy. He was the proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Luca, Rylan, and Weston, who brought him immense joy and laughter. Joe's life was marked by his honorable service in the U.S. Naval Forces as a Seabee from 1978 to 1983. During his service, he learned the trade of pipe welding, which led to an esteemed career as a Master Plumber. His dedication to his craft allowed him to forge lifelong friendships with colleagues and customers alike. Joe's service also included the unique role of a limo driver for President Jimmy Carter and an assignment at Camp David, experiences he spoke of with great pride. Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was a man of varied interests and talents. He found joy in simple pleasures such as metal detecting and reading, and he cherished every moment spent playing with his grandchildren. Joe was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, often sharing his signature "Dad jokes" to the delight of everyone around him. His ability to make others laugh and his generous spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joe is also survived by his sister, Robin, with whom he shared a close bond throughout his life. His family, friends, and community will remember him as a man of integrity, warmth, and unwavering love. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joe's memory to a cancer research organization of your choice, to support those who continue to fight the battle he faced with such bravery. As we say goodbye to Joe, we hold onto the memories of his laughter, his love, and his indomitable spirit. He will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will live on through those who loved him dearly.
