Joe A. Vasquez, born on March 19, 1944, in the vibrant city of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2026, after a courageous battle to overcome a series of strokes. Joe was a man of great strength, resilience, and kindness, whose life was a testament to dedication and love for family, faith, and community.
Born to Beto and Alma Vasquez, Joe was nurtured in a loving household alongside his siblings. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Christina Bratton and Lupita Vasquez. Joe’s legacy lives on through his beloved family who survives him, including his ex-wife Emma Vasquez, his son Joe A Vasquez III and daughter-in-law Esther Vasquez, his daughter Katherine Vasquez, his cherished grandchildren Jose (JoJo) Alberto Vasquez IV and Elexis Martinez, and his great-grandson Greyson Vargas. He also leaves behind siblings Rey and Josie Vasquez, Sylvia Alanis, Toni McKissen, Rudy Vasquez, Martin and Gloria Vasquez, and Mary Lou Torres, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren who adored him.
Joe married Emma Aguilar on February 3, 1963, in his hometown. Together, they built a life rich with love and laughter, raising their children in San Antonio, Texas. Joe’s dedication to his family was unwavering, living by the motto "family first." He embodied warmth and generosity, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of wisdom.
Although Joe did not hold a high school diploma or college degree, his strong work ethic propelled him to a successful career in retail, spanning over 45 years with Greyson's, Woolco Department Store, and Target. His journey from stock boy and window display designer to Area Manager stands as a testament to his dedication and passion for his work.
A devout member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in San Antonio, Joe found joy and solace in his faith. His commitment to God and family was the cornerstone of his life. Joe enjoyed woodworking, refurbishing, and repurposing items with a creative touch. He delighted in family gatherings, barbecuing, playing softball, and listening to music of all genres.
Joe’s character was defined by his generosity and compassion. Known for his sayings like "if got to pay you got to pay," "wasted days and wasted nights," and "it's a wonderful world," he often reminded those around him to cherish life’s moments, however small.
Services to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on May 22, 2026, with a viewing at 4:00 pm and a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A service and burial will follow on May 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm respectively, at Sea Side Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 4357 Ocean Dr, Corpus Christi, TX 78412.
As we bid farewell to Joe, we hold in our hearts the love he shared and the joy he brought into our lives. His spirit will forever remain a guiding light for his family and friends. Joe’s legacy of love and dedication will be cherished for generations to come.
