Joanne Jones

February 3, 1947 — July 6, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Jones, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend on July 6, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born on February 3, 1947, at Freedmen's Hospital in Washington, D.C., to the late John Henry and Bessie Estelle Wood. Joanne's life was a tapestry of resilience, dedication, and love. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold R. Jones, with whom she shared many beautiful years of marriage. Joanne is survived by her children, Walter Augustus Tyler IV and LaShawn Camille Schwartz, who were the pride and joy of her life. A proud graduate of Eastern High School's class of 1965, Joanne began her professional journey at C+P Telephone Company, later lending her talents to H+R Block. Joanne found her true calling at Riggs National Bank, where she dedicated 32 years, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike. Her entrepreneurial spirit also led her to a successful venture with Mary Kay cosmetics, where she made lasting friendships and shared her passion for beauty and empowerment. Even in retirement, Joanne's love for numbers and helping others brought her back to H+R Block, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of her clients. Joanne was not only a career woman but also a devoted mother who skillfully balanced her professional ambitions with her family life. Her fierce independence and remarkable ability to multitask were evident as she raised her children, pursued continued education, and nurtured her friendships. Joanne's giving heart was a beacon of light to all who knew her. In her leisure time, Joanne found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid enthusiast of romantic movies, both old and new, finding beauty and truth in their stories. Joanne loved dining out, exercising in class, home or with friends, and socializing with friends and family. Her love for long walks, especially by the water, provided her with solace and inspiration, a testament to her appreciation for nature's beauty. Joanne's relatives are invited to honor Joanne's life at a memorial service held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. The service will be a celebration of her life, reflecting the warmth, kindness, and love she bestowed upon all who knew her. Joanne Jones will be remembered for her unwavering strength, her boundless love for her family and friends, and her ability to see the beauty in every moment. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.

I Thought of You Today

I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart. -Author Unknown
