Joanne passed away peacefully in the loving company of her family. She was born on February 3, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the late John Henry and Bessie Estelle Wood. Joanne's life was a tapestry of resilience, dedication, and love. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold R. Jones, with whom she shared many beautiful years of marriage. Joanne is survived by her devoted children, Walter A. Tyler and LaShawn Schwartz, who were the pride and joy of her life. A proud graduate of Eastern High School's class of 1965, Joanne embarked on a career that spanned several decades and industries. She began her professional journey at C+P Telephone Company, later lending her talents to H+R Block. Joanne found her true calling at Riggs National Bank, where she dedicated 32 years, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues and clients alike. Her entrepreneurial spirit also led her to a successful venture with Mary Kay cosmetics, where she made lasting friendships and shared her passion for beauty and empowerment. Even in retirement, Joanne's love for numbers and helping others brought her back to H+R Block, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of her clients. Joanne was not only a career woman but also a devoted mother who skillfully balanced her professional ambitions with her family life. Her fierce independence and remarkable ability to multitask were evident as she raised her children, pursued continued education, and nurtured her many friendships. Joanne's steadfast beliefs and grateful, giving heart were a beacon of light to all who knew her. In her leisure time, Joanne found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid enthusiast of romantic movies, both old and new, finding beauty and truth in their stories. Joanne cherished dining out and exploring new culinary delights, often accompanied by her family and friends. Her love for long walks, especially by the water, provided her with solace and inspiration, a testament to her appreciation for nature's beauty. Family and friends are invited to honor Joanne's life at a service held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. The service will be a celebration of her life, reflecting the warmth, kindness, and love she bestowed upon all who had the privilege to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joanne's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of generosity and her commitment to making the world a better place.
