Born on January 21, 1938, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Joanne was the treasured daughter of Charles and Emma Fletcher, who predeceased her. Joanne was a woman of quiet strength and enduring love, whose life was a testament to the power of compassion and resilience. She graduated from Lawrence County Votech and pursued a career in nursing, a profession that spoke to her nurturing spirit and dedication to caring for others. Joanne worked tirelessly as a licensed practical nurse until her well-deserved retirement in 2013. Throughout her life, Joanne was a pillar of her community and a devoted member of the Eldora Baptist Church in Ellabell, Georgia. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Joanne's home was a beacon of warmth and kindness, where she welcomed neighborhood children with open arms, earning her the affectionate title of "Grandma" to all. She had a passion for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, often finding joy in the whimsical world they represented. Joanne also loved the simple pleasures of life, spending her spare time tending to her garden and enjoying a quiet game of solitaire on her computer. Despite the challenges she faced, including the loss of her infant daughter Susan Downs, her son Wesley Downs, and her great-great-granddaughter Avery Downs, Joanne remained a steadfast source of love and support for her family. She is survived by her devoted children, Cinthia Downs, Nancy Bauer, and Robert Downs, as well as her seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory. Joanne also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews who adored her. Joanne's life will be celebrated in a service on July 14, 2026, at 1:20 PM, where her family and friends will gather to honor the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
