With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Joann Campbell, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on July 10, 2026, at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Joann was born on April 18, 1951, in Joliet, Illinois, to Frances Clara Hall Mathis and Richard Joseph Hall. She was 75 years old. Joann lived a life filled with love and laughter, always surrounded by her cherished family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Frances and Richard, as well as her brothers Richard Joseph and Gary Thomas, and sister Vivian Mae. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her devoted son, Robert James, and daughter-in-law, Sonja Faye; her stepdaughter, Michelle; her grandchildren, Joanna, Jessica, Anne, Brenda, Alyssa, William, Dakota, and Ethan; and her 13 great-grandchildren. Joann also leaves her dear sisters, Pauline and Betty, and her brothers, John and Jim, along with her beloved nephews John, William, James and nieces Francis and Vivian. In 1986, Joann moved to Winston-Salem to be closer to her son, and she quickly became a treasured member of the community. She was married to Ronald Campbell, with whom she shared many beautiful years. Joann was known for her quick wit and radiant smile, always ready with a joke to brighten the day. Her gift for making others feel welcome and valued was unmatched, and her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Joann had a passion for baking, and her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of her delicious creations. In her later years, she dedicated herself to her family and friends, cherishing every moment spent with those she loved. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Trellis Hospice Care and Johnson Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness during this difficult time. Joann's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
