Joan Yvonne Truax

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Joan Yvonne Truax, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Joan passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family in Ocklawaha, Florida. She was 84 years old. Born on November 23, 1941, in Muskegon, Michigan, Joan was the daughter of Lowell A. and Mable Adeline Phillippo. She was predeceased by her infant daughters, Laurie Ann and Debra Jean Pulsipher, as well as her brother Jerry Phillippo, sister-in-law Linda Phillippo, and brother-in-law Lester Comstock. Joan leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, William L. Truax, who stood by her side through life's many adventures. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including her children, James VanHuis, Sandra Rounds, and Rose (Don) DeVries. Her family continued to grow, blessing her with 16 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply. Joan is also survived by her sisters, Linda Comstock and Mary Truax (Dan), who shared in her joys and sorrows. Her close friendships with Liz and Darrel Stedman, and Troy, were a source of immense happiness and companionship throughout her life. Joan was a woman of many talents and passions. She found joy in the art of crocheting and sewing quilts, creating treasured gifts for her loved ones. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, often accompanied by her dear friends Liz and Darrel, creating cherished memories along the way. Known for her infectious smile and spicy personality, Joan had a remarkable ability to bring laughter to those around her. Her little giggle was a hallmark of her vivacious spirit, lighting up any room she entered. A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on June 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Fruitland Township Cemetery in Muskegon, Michigan with a luncheon to follow. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Joan's memory. This organization was close to Joan's heart, and contributions will help continue the important work she valued. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks Sandra Rounds(Tim) for ALL your help, Cynthia and Tyler Mahler for preparing Joan's grandparents' room during their time in Michigan, to Laura Politte for caring for the nieces and nephews, and to Stacey DeVries for her loving care of "Tiny Grandma." A special thank you is also extended to Gentiva Hospice Care for their compassion and dedication during Joan's final days. Joan Yvonne Truax will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
