It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Joan P. Johnson, who peacefully departed this life on June 20, 2026, at the age of 76. Joan was born on March 14, 1950, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Albert Cooper Sr. and Alice Grace Cooper. She was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Joan grew up in Baltimore, where she spent her childhood amidst the love and laughter of her family. She was predeceased by both her parents, her dear sister Debbie Cowan, and her brother Albert Cooper Jr. Despite these losses, Joan's spirit remained resilient, and she continued to be a source of strength and comfort to her loved ones.
Joan dedicated many years of her professional life to the Social Security Administration, where she worked tirelessly and retired with a legacy of commitment and diligence. Her work was more than just a career; it was a testament to her dedication to serving and helping others, a true reflection of her compassionate nature.
A woman of deep faith and community spirit, Joan was a former member of the Eastern Star. Her involvement in the organization was a testament to her unwavering dedication to fellowship and service, values she held dear throughout her life.
Joan's greatest joy and pride were her family. She is survived by her loving children: Jonathan Downey (Shantessa), Rodney Johnson Jr. (Audria), and Alecia Johnson. She was the cherished grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren: Rodney, Ryan, Rowan, Rayah, and Morgan, who were the light of her life. Joan's legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on through each of them.
She also leaves behind her brother, Henry A. Cooper-El, who, along with the rest of her family, will forever hold her close in their hearts. Joan's memory will be treasured by all who knew her, as she was a beacon of love, warmth, and unwavering support.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held on July 8, 2026, at the March Life Tribute Center, located at 5616 Old Court Rd, Randallstown, MD 21133. Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor, to share memories and celebrate the beautiful life she led.
As we bid farewell to Joan, we remember her with love and gratitude. Her family wishes to share a special message: "We think about you always, we talk about you still. You have never been forgotten, and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives, until we meet again."
Joan P. Johnson will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire and guide us all. May she rest in eternal peace.
