Joan Mapstone
March 31, 1933 — May 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Mapstone, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on May 27, 2026. Joan departed this world from the comfort of her home, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion that will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Born on March 31, 1933, in Utica, New York, Joan was a beacon of kindness and strength throughout her 93 years. She was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and she carried the values instilled in her by her family into every aspect of her life. A proud graduate of Mohawk Central High School's class of 1951, Joan's thirst for knowledge and understanding extended far beyond the classroom.
On May 14, 1966, Joan married the love of her life, Eugene C. Mapstone, in a union that would span four decades until Eugene's passing on April 1, 2006. Together, they built a nurturing and joyful home, raising seven children who were the center of their universe. Joan found her greatest joy in motherhood, guiding her children with a gentle hand and a loving heart. She enriched their childhoods with adventures and laughter, from swimming and camping to hiking and sledding at Green Lakes State Park, and exploring historical sites and amusement parks.
Joan's family continued to grow, and she was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, where she imparted wisdom and joy to the next generations. Her legacy of love and family will continue to thrive in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held on June 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Schepp's Funeral Home, located on Main Street in Minoa, NY. Family and friends are welcome to gather to honor the memory of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her kindness and generosity.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of CNY, an organization that provided Joan with comfort and care during her final days. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Joan's daughter, Maryann, and daughter-in-law, Wendy, for their compassionate and unwavering care during these past several months. Your dedication and love have been a source of strength and comfort.
Joan Mapstone's presence in our lives was a gift, and her spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. Though she is no longer with us, she leaves behind a tapestry of beautiful memories that will forever be cherished. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
