It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Joan Frances Cappello, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on May 26, 2026, at Brandywine Pennington by Monarch. Joan was 87 years young, a testament to a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
Born on February 27, 1939, in Trenton, New Jersey, to John C. Wolliard and Margaret Wolliard, Joan embodied the values of kindness, generosity, and compassion from an early age. She was raised in a loving household that nurtured her gentle spirit, characteristics which she carried throughout her life and instilled in her own family.
Joan's educational journey began at Cathedral High School in Trenton, New Jersey, where she graduated with honors. She furthered her education at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, setting a strong foundation for her career. Joan's professional life was marked by dedication and integrity, serving diligently as a bookkeeper for the Mercer County Treasurer's office. After dedicating years as a devoted homemaker to her five children, she re-entered the workforce with the NJ League of Women Voters in Trenton, New Jersey, where she continued her role in bookkeeping with grace and professionalism.
On April 18, 1959, Joan married the love of her life, Joseph F. Cappello. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with warmth and laughter, raising five remarkable daughters: Kathryn Cappello Clancy (Michael), JoAnn Cappello, Carolyn Cappello Burns (Mark), Margaret Cappello Piliere (Frank), and Karen Cappello Kent (Robert). Her legacy of love extended to her cherished grandchildren: Zachary Burns, Julia Burns (John), Kevin Clancy, William Kent, and Chelsea Kent, and great-grandchild, Thomas, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Joan was a woman of deep faith, a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she actively participated in the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), contributing her time and talents to community service. Her life was also enriched by the enduring friendships she cultivated, including her beloved group of friends, affectionately known as "The Joans," a testament to her ability to forge deep and lasting connections.
In addition to her family and friends, Joan had a zest for life's simple pleasures. She was an exceptional cook, her kitchen often filled with the aroma of delicious meals lovingly prepared for her large family gatherings. Later in life, she found joy in the quiet challenge of crossword puzzles, a pastime that reflected her sharp mind and love for words.
Joan's life was a tapestry woven with threads of kindness, devotion, and love. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to her family have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and her parents, John and Margaret, who now welcome her into eternal rest.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 6, 2026, at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 115 E. Delaware Avenue, Pennington, NJ 08534. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Joan's life and legacy.
The Cappello family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brandywine at Pennington by Monarch for their dedicated care and support during Joan's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to a charity of your choice, continuing her legacy of generosity and compassion.
Joan F. Cappello will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
