Joan English

September 8, 1929 — May 24, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan English on May 24, 2026, at the age of 96. Surrounded by love, Joan departed this world from natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and artistic beauty. Born on September 8, 1929, in the serene town of Twin Falls, Idaho, Joan was the cherished daughter of Tom and Dora Hicks, who have predeceased her. Joan's early years were filled with the simple joys of small-town life. After graduating from Twin Falls High School, Joan moved to Denver to further her education at a business school, a step that would prepare her for a career in office work while skillfully balancing the responsibilities of raising a family. She met and married Phil Jensen in 1950. Their union brought them to California, where they spent 19 happy years raising their children before Joan returned many years later to her beloved Idaho, where she remained until her passing. Joan's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and community. An accomplished artist, she expressed herself through pastels, watercolors, and acrylics, capturing the natural beauty of landscapes, flowers, birds, and wild animals. Joan's art was not just a personal pursuit but a gift she generously shared with family and friends, often crafting her own greeting and holiday cards. Her joy in creation extended to teaching others, finding fulfillment in inspiring those around her to explore their own artistic talents. A true hostess at heart, Joan cherished the company of others. Her invitations for afternoon tea and cookies were a testament to her English heritage. Joan loved sharing a funny joke, her laughter brightening the lives of all who knew her. Her love for life was evident in her fondness for dining out, especially for breakfast, and she was rarely seen without a beloved cat by her side. Joan is survived by her beloved children, Janet Wheeler (Morgan), Lori McAfee, and Tom Jensen (Dorothy), who continue her legacy. Her memory will also be cherished by her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring influence and love. A celebration of Joan's life will be held on June 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, located at 5400 Fairview Ave, Boise. Burial will be held on June 12, 2026, at 1:30 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Joan's honor to the Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Center, an organization close to her heart. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Foxtail Senior Living in Eagle and Keystone Hospice for the compassionate care they provided Joan in her final days. Joan English's life was a beautiful testament to love, laughter, and creativity. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and leaves behind an indelible mark on the world. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
