It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Ribbeck, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 22, 2026, at Friendship Manor, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 30, 1931, in Sumner, Iowa, Joan was the daughter of Carl and Alvina Reuter. She grew up in a family that valued love, education, and community service. Joan graduated from Sumner High School before attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she pursued her passion for education. She taught primary school in Postville, Iowa until her marriage to James. In August of 1953, Joan married her high school sweetheart, James Ribbeck, in their hometown of Sumner. Together, they built a life of love and devotion, raising three wonderful children, and sharing 68 beautiful years together until James's passing in 2021. A dedicated mother and grandmother, Joan leaves behind her children, Tom and Karen, and her treasured grandchildren, Mila (Brittney), Mark, and Cole (Hanna). She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Reuter) Stamp. Though predeceased by her parents, her son Douglas, her husband James, and her brothers Jim and Steve Reuter, Joan's legacy of love and warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Joan was a woman of unwavering faith and integrity. For over 60 years, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline, where she found joy and purpose in serving her community. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her volunteer work with the PTA, the Red Cross, Reach to Recovery, as well as volunteering in various capacities in the public schools and in her church. Joan was also a dedicated Girl Scout and Cub Scout/Boy Scout leader, nurturing the growth of young minds. She sang in Trinity's choir and played bells in their bell choir. She loved music and played piano. She was a member of Augustana College's Endowment Society and served as president for 2 years. In her leisure time, Joan found immense joy in quilting, reading, and traveling with her husband. They enjoyed many Elderhostels and toured many countries. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joan's life on October 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1330 13th Street, Moline, IL.
