In Loving Memory

Joan Anne Shullo
February 13, 1922 — October 28, 2026
Joan Anne Shullo, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away suddenly at the age of 104. Born on February 13, 1922, in England, Joan brought warmth and wisdom to all who knew her throughout her long and fulfilling life.
Joan was predeceased by her devoted husband, Philip Francis Shullo, and her cherished sisters, Joyce and Ruth. She is survived by her loving children: Philip (Deborah), Joan, David (Rose), Joyce, and Geoffrey (Janet). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Samantha (Jon), John (Anna Jane), Philip, Deirdre (Dove), Stephanie, Julie, Michelle, and David, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren: Penny, Lucy, and Isobel.
A graduate of Seton Hill University, Joan earned her Master's degree in Education, which she used to inspire and nurture young minds within the Catholic diocese for over 40 years. She was a dedicated math and science teacher at various schools, including Sacred Heart and St. Regis. Joan found immense joy in encouraging her students, not only in the classroom but also through extracurricular activities such as the Junior Academy of Science and science fairs. Her door was always open to students with questions or concerns, and she took great pride in helping them overcome their academic challenges.
In her younger years, Joan and her husband, Philip, found great delight in dancing to Big Band music, a pastime that reflected their deep connection and shared joy. They also enjoyed traveling, crisscrossing the US and cruising to Alaska. Her love for nature was evident in her beautiful gardens, where she spent countless hours tending to her flowers. Yet, above all, Joan cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she relished every moment spent with them, whether in person or over the phone, sharing stories and laughter.
Joan's family will honor her life with a private funeral ceremony, respecting her wishes for an intimate gathering. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Joan's memory may consider making a donation to a charity of their choice or to an educational fund that supports young learners in need.
Though Joan's physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, dedication, and love have left an indelible mark on her family, her students, and her community. Her legacy of compassion and education will continue to inspire generations to come.
