Jo Ellen Currie

Jo Ellen Currie, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 3, 1947, in Evadale, Texas, Jo Ellen was the cherished daughter of Bronson and Addie Bell Cravy, who preceded her in death along with her dear husband, Donald Currie, and sister, Betty Sue Rawls. Jo Ellen's life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy. She was a dedicated and nurturing mother to her two children, Donnie Currie (Charlotte) and Tammy Bray (David), and a doting grandmother to Andrea, Breanna, Ashton, Haley, Cody, and Colton. Her legacy extends through her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Cannin, Mackston, and Sutton, who brought her endless joy and pride. She is also survived by her loving brother, Dale Cravy (Dana), who shared a lifelong bond with her. In addition to her family, Jo Ellen leaves behind her devoted companion, Bill Hinchliffe, who was a steadfast presence in her life. she was the family's favorite aunt including Brad, Emilie, Tyler, Donna, Robert and Thomas. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless new and lifelong friends. After retiring from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Jo Ellen devoted her time to her passions and her community. Known to many as a "card shark," she found great pleasure in playing card games and board games, and recently took up MahJong, often surrounded by family and friends. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her enthusiasm for hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jo Ellen also cherished traveling, especially to beach destinations where she could relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Jo Ellen was an active member of her local Baptist church, where she found spiritual nourishment and lifelong friendships. Her culinary skills were legendary and rooted in deep southern cuisine, and her family will fondly remember the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for gatherings, creating cherished memories around the table. A celebration of Jo Ellen's life will be held at Autry Funeral Home, located at 1025 Southeast Loop 456, Jacksonville, TX 75766. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her memory and share in the love she so generously gave to all who knew her. Jo Ellen Currie will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
