It is with profound sadness and heartfelt appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jo Ann Walker, who left this world peacefully at her home on May 3, 2026. Born on April 7, 1934, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jo Ann was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to family and community. Jo Ann was the cherished daughter of the late Ladia and Robert Wallace, who instilled in her the values of love, resilience, and compassion. These values guided her throughout her life as she raised her family and built lasting relationships. She is predeceased by her beloved parents and holds a cherished place in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her devoted husband, Elbert Walker, whom she married in 1955. Together, they shared a remarkable journey filled with love and partnership. She was the proud and loving mother of Elbert Walker jr, Lesa Lesure, Nita Freeman, and Lee Scurllark who will forever remember her as a nurturing and supportive figure. Her legacy of love continues through her seven grandchildren Melissa Scurllark, Janelle Scurllark, Vincent Scurllark, Kedric Walker, Track Lesure, Zack Lesure and Nikita Lesure who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Jo Ann dedicated her career to caring for others as a medical assistant, where her gentle demeanor and compassionate spirit left a lasting impact on both colleagues and patients alike. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life as she was an active and cherished member of the Independence Church, where she not only found spiritual fulfillment but also a community that she loved dearly. Her hobbies were a testament to her devotion to her family, as she found great joy in cooking, sewing, and lovingly tending to her children and grandchildren. Each meal she prepared and each stitch she sewed was a labor of love, a reflection of her nurturing heart. The family has chosen to honor Jo Ann’s memory in a private ceremony, respecting her wishes for an intimate farewell. During this difficult time, they would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses who provided compassionate care and support. Though Jo Ann has departed from this earthly life, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. Jo Ann Walker will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made in Jo Ann's memory to the Independence Baptist Church, an organization that was dear to her heart.
