In Loving Memory

Jo Ann Bushnell
December 30, 1930 ā July 7, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Jo Ann Bushnell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, on July 7, 2026, in the comfort of her home. Born on December 30, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, Jo Ann lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and service to others.
Jo Ann entered the world as the daughter of Mildred Weaver and was lovingly raised by her adopted parents, Helen and Gerald Durflinger. Her early life was marked by a profound commitment to learning and caring for others, which would become the cornerstone of her life's work.
In 1952, Jo Ann married her high school sweetheart, Dean Bushnell, embarking on a journey of love that, although it ended in divorce 25 years later, brought forth three wonderful children: Doug Bushnell, Dave Bushnell (and his wife Sally), and Karen Bushnell Jones (and her husband Bill). Jo Ann was also blessed with two grandchildren, including Dustin William Jones, and a cherished great-granddaughter, Violet Willow Jones. Her family was her pride and joy, and she carried the memory of her predeceased grandson, Sean Arthur Bushnell, close to her heart.
Jo Ann's educational journey led her to Dohan College and Creighton University, where she graduated with a degree in Nursing. Her passion for helping others saw her further her education at the University of Denver to become a Registered Nurse. Her career began at St. Anthony's Hospital in the Neonatal Unit, where she cared for the tiniest of patients with a gentle touch and a loving heart. She continued her work as an RN at the same hospital and later found her calling in Home Health Care, where she brought comfort and compassion into the lives of many.
A resident of Lakewood for 60 years, Jo Ann was an active member of St. Jude's Parish and found joy in singing with the church choir, sharing her voice with all those around her. Her love for nature was evident in her involvement with the Denver Audubon Society, where she volunteered at the Chatfield Audubon Center. Jo Ann's infectious sense of humor and unwavering love for the outdoors inspired many, as she enjoyed hiking, birding, wildflower walks, biking, and camping.
Jo Ann's creativity knew no bounds; she found solace and expression in painting, crocheting, quilting, and scrapbooking. Her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes, and kind, tender heart left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was a woman who loved hugs and spread warmth wherever she went.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Elizabeth Gardens, Family Tree, and Brighton Hospice for their dedicated care and support during Jo Ann's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to a charity of your choice in Jo Ann's honor, ensuring that her legacy of care and compassion continues to make a difference in the world.
Jo Ann Bushnell will be profoundly missed but forever remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
