December 30, 1930 — July 7, 2026
Jo Ann Bushnell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on July 7, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on December 30, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, Jo Ann was a cherished daughter to her adoptive parents, Helen and Gerald Durflinger of Hutchinson, Kansas, and was born to her birth mother, Mildred Weaver.
Throughout her life, Jo Ann was a beacon of love and compassion, attributes she carried into her vocation as a nurse. She graduated from Creighton University with a degree in Nursing and later pursued further education at the University of Denver, where she earned her RN degree. Her dedication to the well-being of others was a true testament to her character and touched countless lives.
In the early 1950s, Jo Ann married Dean Bushnell, with whom she shared 24 and a half years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with three children: Doug Bushnell, Dave Bushnell and his wife Sally, and Karen Bushnell Jones and her husband Bill. Jo Ann's legacy continues through her beloved grandchild, Dustin Jones, and her cherished great-granddaughter, Violet Jones.
Her infectious sense of humor and unwavering love for life were ever present. Jo Ann was a dedicated member of St. Jude's Parish for many years, where she found joy in singing with the choir. Her love for the outdoors shone brightly through her volunteer work with the Audubon Society, as she delighted in birding, hiking, and biking.
Jo Ann is predeceased by her grandson, Sean Bushnell, whose memory she held dear. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure the warmth and wisdom she imparted.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at GSE, Family Tree, and Hospice for their dedicated care and support during Jo Ann's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jo Ann's memory to a charity of your choice. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness and joy will be remembered always.
